ABOUT US

Welcome to Government Medical College, Virudhunagar.

Virudhunagar, formerly called as Kamarajar district, is a district of Tamil Nadu state located in South India. It has a long standing reputation of being one among the top educational districts of Tamil Nadu. Incidentally it is also the birth place of Karmaveerar Kamarajar, the  ex Chief Minister, freedom fighter, Bharat Ratna awardee and a visionary reformist who made school education accessible to all.

The Srivilliputhur Andal temple located 45 km from Virudhunagar  is another pride of our district. Andal was a Tamil poet-saint and ardent devotee of Lord Thirumal, in whose praise she sang the devotional hymns collection, Thiruppavai. The  tower of Andal temple decorates the emblem of our Tamil Nadu state. Sivakasi town in Virudhunagar district is known for the printing industry, crackers and match boxes and its high industrial nature justifies its nick name of Mini Japan.

The recently instituted Government Medical College, Virudhunagar, located in the Collectorate Master Plan Complex, Koorakundu village, is a new jewel in the crown of Virudhunagar district.

The college and hospital buildings, which sprawl over 22.4 acres and 15.07 acres respectively, have ultra modern and futuristic infrastructure built at a cost of Rs.380 crores, to cater to the needs of students and patients. As an eco friendly initiative, bio fencing with tree plantations is has been executed in the entire college campus.

Our college has well experienced teaching faculties to teach medical students and to provide state of art treatment to patients, who come here from nearby localities. Thus the Government Medical College, Virudhunagar, is all set to develop as a premium tertiary care centre in the near future and it is a boon to this part of the state.
